Encounter of a bird with a red flower
In the cold November weather of northern Germany, you walk through a park with bare trees. The air is clear and cool, the winter sky above you in a pale blue. You notice a troop of waxwings searching for berries in the bare branches. Their colorful plumage forms a vivid contrast to the dreary background, and they scurry skillfully from branch to branch as they search for food. The impressions of the day remain in my memory. Many months later, when I photograph mallow blossoms in Ireland, an image for a painting emerges from the combination of both pictures in my head.
